Vioxx
informed consent document warns of minor
problems, but no heart or GI risks
This
material is from a 2005 investigation by Brian Deer for The Sunday Times of London
into the painkiller Vioxx | Go

At
the heart of Brian Deer's investigation were
inquiries into research led by David Kerr and Michael Langman, carried out at 168 UK
hospitals and more in Australasia. This project,
financed by Merck, was called "Victor",
and aimed to test Vioxx against placebo in 7,000
patients for the prevention of colon cancer. But
were the volunteers provided with fair informed
consent? Here's the papers supplied to Kenneth
Wood of Shropshire in May 2002, who died of a
heart attack reported as "probably"
related
to his use of Vioxx
