At the heart of Brian Deer's investigation were inquiries into research led by David Kerr and Michael Langman, carried out at 168 UK hospitals and more in Australasia. This project, financed by Merck, was called "Victor", and aimed to test Vioxx against placebo in 7,000 patients for the prevention of colon cancer. But were the volunteers provided with fair informed consent?
