Dear
Sir,
Re:
Mr Hardy-Smith
On
the 24th May 1986, in my capacity
as an elected local councillor, I
was with Mr Hardy-Smith at the
former Cycle Auction site he had
previously occupied under the
Westway flyover. I there
witnessed a conversation between
him and Mr Tony Ramsay, now know
to me as the Manager of
Countryside Markets who hold the
Westway Market licence.
Earlier
I had been informed that Mr
Ramsay had sworn an affidavit on
7th March 1986 on behalf of
N.K.A.T [Now
Westway Development Trust]
that was used against Mr
Hardy-Smith during a court action
brought by N.K.A.T. It seemed
that there was a possibility that
perjury had been committed.
Realising the gravity of this
information, and that the
Director of N.K.A.T. was fully
aware and involved I considered
it important to gain more
information. During the
conversation between Mr
Hardy-Smith and Mr Ramsay, Mr
Hardy-Smith said "Did you
hear about the court case?"
Tony replied "Yes I did and
I am in trouble aren't I, but I
was told to sign the affidavit by
Maurice after Roger had phoned
him and Maurice is the boss -
what could I do?". Mr
Hardy-Smith said "But that
is perjury". Tony then said
"Don't say anything about
that". The conversation
carried on and shortly after we
departed. I immediately went home
and wrote notes of the
conversation, the foregoing
sentance being the most
revealing.
Later
that day Mr Hardy-Smith explained
that at a previous meeting
between him and Tony, Tony had
confided to him that he knew the
details contained in the
affidavit were untrue but had no
option other than to sign it
because of pressure being put on
Countrywide director Maurice by
Roger Matland of N.K.A.T.
Certainly what I heard that day
from Mr Ramsay unequivocably
confirms this.
In
the interest of truth I put this
information before you.
Signed,
P.J
Allen-Smyth
