Dear Sir,
We act for
Mr Roger Matland, the director of the North
Kensington Amenity Trust [Now
Westway Development Trust].
You have
libelled our client in the most serious possible
manner in a letter sent by you to my client's
employer, the North Kensington Amenity Trust,
purporting to be written by Mr Pat Smyth but in
fact written by yourself. In that letter you
alleged that our client had acted criminally in
an effort to pervert the course of justice by
exercising pressure on a third party to give
perjured evidence.
You were
well aware at the time of writing that letter
that the allegations in it would have had the
most serious consequences for our client's good
name, employment and position within the
community and the letter was calculated to
defame.
Our client
requires from you an apology in the form of the
draft attached and compensation in the sum of
£3,000 which he intends to donate to charities
of his choice.
This is a
very serious matter and we would urge you to
obtain legal advice on it.
We look
forward to receiving your reply within the next
twenty-one days in default of which proceedings
will be issued without further notice.
Yours
faithfully,
Sinclair
