British Press Awards nominations
From The Sunday Times, 27 February 2011, page 2. The press awards recognize the best national newspaper journalism and are based on submissions by editors. For the 2011 awards, the Society of Editors said in a statement that 650 entries were received from the industry.
The society’s executive director Bob Satchwell said: “The judges faced a formidable task and the rare priviledge of reading thousands of words gathered together in brilliant entries that reflect the variety, vitality and sheer excellence of British newspapers which are of course the best in the world.”
At the awards dinner at the Savoy hotel, London, on 5 April 2011, Deer was named specialist journalist of the year for his work, which the judges described as “a tremendous righting of a wrong”.
