The Wakefield factor
Following Brian
Deer's Dispatches investigation of November
2004, reporting facts about Andrew Wakefield and his campaign against
the MMR vaccine, which a judge described as "of
considerable public interest and concern"
that "went to the heart"

and professional integrity",
Wakefield initiated libel proceedings. Two years
later, after the disclosure of a mass of
documents, including medical records, he dropped
his claim, and agreed to pay the defendants'
costs
