Following
Brian Deer's Dispatches investigation of
November 2004, reporting facts about Andrew Wakefield and his campaign
against the MMR vaccine, which a judge described as "of
considerable public interest and
concern" that "went
to the heart" of the
British former surgeon's "honesty
and professional integrity",
Wakefield initiated libel proceedings.
Two years later, after the disclosure of
a mass of documents, including medical
records, he dropped his claim, and agreed
to pay the defendants' costs
