Wakefield coughs up for libel claim
After threatening to sue for libel over Deer’s revelations, Andrew Wakefield was ordered by the High Court in London to put up or shut up. When his legal advisers, Radcliffes LeBrasseur, studied hundreds of vital documents, including children’s medical records and parents’ statements, however, Wakefield took the only possible course to escape a perjury complaint.
In January 2007, he abandoned his meritless claims against Brian Deer, Channel 4, The Sunday Times and this website, and compensated Deer for his personal costs.
As is customary in legal settlements, the amount paid to Brian Deer as a result of Andrew Wakefield’s capitulation has been withheld. The money, however, was wholly reinvested in the investigation of Wakefield’s fraud.
