Dean says
legal cash for MMR-autism link was
rejected after ethical consultations
This page
is research from an investigation by Brian Deer for The Sunday
Times of London and the UK's Channel 4
Television into a campaign linking the MMR
children's vaccine with autism.
| Go to part I: The Lancet scandal | Go to
part II: The Wakefield
factor
At the
heart of Brian Deer's findings was a deal
between Andrew Wakefield and a law firm Dawbarns, through which
money from the UK's Legal Aid Board [now
the Legal Services Commission] was used
in a project which created the impression
of a link between the vaccine and autism.
In statements, Wakefield
claimed that he received the legal money
for "quite separate" work to
what triggered the worldwide vaccine
scare. Papers subsequently obtained tell
a different story, as does this
letter from the Royal Free's dean
